I could list a lot of good reasons for being into stuff that is retro, but a huge advantage comes in on the entertainment front. If you look around you find lots of different things you have never seen before and many of them are of super high quality. You happen to catch one episode of a TV show you have never seen before and BAM, suddenly you have 7 seasons a brand “new to you” show in your queue. This is exactly what I am hoping will happen with the medial drama, Medical Center, which was just released on DVD through the Warner Archive. What was it like you ask? Check out this intro and then read the show’s summary.
The head of surgery may be “knife happy”…a runaway refuses to seek parental permission for a life-saving procedure…a research scientist ignores the side effects of his miracle cure for Hodgkin’s disease. These are just some of the problems facing doctor and resident heartthrob Joseph Gannon (Chad Everett) and Chief of Staff Paul Lochner (James Daly) in the 6-Disc 26-Episode Debut Season of Medical Center, the influential series that ran from 1969 to 76. Known for tackling cutting-edge issues, the series also featured elite guest stars, including Season One’s Dyan Cannon, Tyne Daly, Mercedes McCambridge, Slim Pickens, Walter Pidgeon, William Shatner, Martin Sheen, Richard Thomas, Cicely Tyson and more
I am completely addicted to the show now and I need for the rest of it to made available, so please stop by the Warner Archive and if you like well done TV from the late 1960s and 1970s, give it this amazing remastered drama a shot.
