Astounding fact we probably all already know: Most of Tron’s “digital” effects were actually accomplished through utterly traditional animation and/or dark velvet + black-light. Though I’ve never been one to champion the inherent brilliance of animation, this, to me, seems as a potent reminder of the astounding purposes to which animation can be put when its unshackled from cute sidekicks and awesome roundhouse kicks.
