    Bit of auto financing history: Mel took some heat for his dealership’s “On-Time Device”. He sold cars to folks with poor credit history, and the device allowed Mel to disable the vehicle if payments were missed. Some customers claimed that their cars were disabled even if they were current with their payments – and Mel ended up settling with them after a lawsuit. Whether you agree or disagree with Mel’s tactics, it was revolutionary at the time.

    I’m so glad you posted this — we used to get Detroit stations where I lived in Canada and I remember watching these commercials like it was yesterday.
