Cheyenne: Season 2, Parts 1 & 2 Now Available on DVD

With the True Grit retelling due to hit theaters in just over a week (and buzz is decent so far) could we see a new resurgence in interest in Westerns? You never know, but even if we do not get slew of new films and TV, their is a back catalog of great westerns just waiting to be tapped. One part that is slowly being re-released is the Clint Walker golden age western TV drama, Cheyenne.

Cheyenne Bodie rides again in more of the straightforward cowboy adventures that made the Cheyenne series – 8 seasons and 108 episodes total – one of the most durable TV Westerns. Rugged Clint Walker plays the title role, a loner in the lawless West who brings a sense of justice to his heroics in these 20 wide-ranging, open-range episodes involving the powerful (President Grant is the target of kidnappers), the weak (an orphaned infant), rustlers, thieves, killers, connivers and Chief Sitting Bull. Lots of stars shine in this West: guest stars/co-stars include Dan Blocker, Diane Brewster, Peggie Castle, Richard Crenna, John Carradine, Angie Dickinson, James Garner and Dennis Hopper.

One of the local channels in my area when I was growing up always showed Bonanza, then inexplicably they switch to Cheyenne for about 6 months and then just as mysteriously switched back to Bonanza right when I was getting into it. I challenge you to not be won over to the charisma of mountain sized cowboy, Cheyenne Bodie. So I have been watching for this show to get a release and while I was very happy to see Season 1 come out, I am even happier to see that WB seems committed to releasing the entire series. In Season 2 you get the following episodes

Cheyenne: Season 2 (Part 1)
1. The Dark Rider
2. The Long Winter
3. Death Deals the Hand
4. The Bounty Killers
5. The Law Man
6. Mustang Trail
7. Lone Gun
8. The Trap
9. The Iron Trail
10. Land Beyond The Law

Cheyenne: Season 2 (Part 2)
11. Test of Courage
12. War Party
13. Deadline
14. Big Ghost Basin
15. Born Bad
16. The Brand
17. Decision at Gunsight
18. The Spanish Grant
19. Hard Bargain
20. The Broken Pledge

I am not sure why they cut the season in 2 parts? Maybe to make the cost more manageable? I guess the is smart, but if your like me and like to get a whole season in one batch, the Warner Archive is selling them both as a package. So, if you like westerns and have been looking for this classic, or have a western fan in your life who might not be acquainted with the show. Please drop by the Warner Archive and pick up both parts today.
