Run-DMC is the trio that helped to originate rap music and hip-hop over two decades ago. It all started with “It’s Like That”, their single debut in 1983. Run-DMC started the revolution that took rap into the mainstream, television and the RIAA platinum scene. They were the first real rap artists and took hip-hop way beyond the rap level. The trio was the first rap group to appear on American Bandstand and Saturday Night Live. They were the one and only rap act at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia in 1985 (I was there and Run-DMC was righteous!).
The achievements of Run-DMC – Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell, Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels – are unparalleled. Sadly, not long after the group finished an intense tour with Kid Rock and Aerosmith in late 2002, Run-DMC’s founding member and talented artist Jam Master Jay was murdered. It changed the group’s outlook forever.
Run-DMC’s first four albums are ‘80s rap music and hip-hop classics. They were newly remastered recently and feature multiple bonus tracks – 17 tracks in all, including live performances, demos, single B sides, spiels, remixes and radio spots, most of them previously unreleased. Arriving in stores soon: deluxe digipaks of RUN-D.M.C.
(1984); KING OF ROCK (1985), 20th anniversary special edition; RAISING HELL (1986); TOUGHER THAN LEATHER (1988). Each CD booklet will feature rare memorabilia and photography from the archives of Run-DMC. Also arriving in stores around the middle of September will be Rev Run’s first solo album DISTORTION. Rev Run, one of the founding fathers of rap music and hip-hop, is returning to center stage once again. “Run’s House,” a new reality family-based sitcom starring Joey Simmons aka Rev Run, will be premiering this fall on MTV. Yes – Run-DMC still got it goin’ on!
