I never watched Scarecrow and Mrs. King during its initial run and its coverage in syndication has been rather spotty. So when I saw that Scarecrow and Mrs. King Season 1 was being released on DVD, I thought I would give it a go and I am glad that I did. The show ran originally from October 3, 1983, to May 28, 1987 on the CBS. It starred Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner as divorced housewife Amanda King and “Agency” operative Lee Stetson. After the two encounter each other in a subway station while Stetson is on a mission, the who fall in love. It is not too much a of a stretch to compare this show to the movie “True Lies” in that the two eventually both start working for this mysterious “Agency” and getting into adventures together.
The DVD has all 21 episodes from the first season on 5 discs. I kind of shrugged off the fact that the set has no “extras”, but now that I have watched the show and thoroughly enjoyed it I wish they had put something on the disc. A promo or featurette maybe? (When will they learn that we are a sucker for retro commercials and promos?) Well I guess they needed to release season 1 and see how it did, before committing to any extras on future sets. I will keep my fingers crossed hoping those will be released in short order.
