Crispy Critters

I remember howling with laughter when I saw this commercial for the otherwise nondescript animal-shaped Crispy Critters cereal in the mid-’80s, because my friends and I called what you probably call “klingons near Uranus” “crispy critters.” As the ad boasts, it was indeed “low sugar,” and it tasted awful, although not as bad as what I had come to know as “crispy critters.” The main animal in the commercial does a Jimmy Durante impression, and you compound that with the low sugar thing, and it’s clear they were marketing this cereal to bewildered grandparents who needed to buy a cereal for when the little ones were coming to visit.

  1. I loved the characters in the commercial! I actually have an old cereal box and on the back is an island and it has a bunch of animals and stuff on it. Great art

  2. Apparently I used to really like CC’s when I was little. Do not remember this but I do joke about it to my kids, because that name is just so funny!
