Remember “Return of the Ewok”?

Do you remember “Return of the Ewok?” Probably not, because it was never completed, even though Lucas had plans to use it in promotions for “Return of the Jedi”. “RoE” is a 24-minute mockumentary starring Warwick Davis, the actor who played the Ewok, Wicket in Return of the Jedi and the Ewok spin-off films. Davis and David Tomblin, Return of the Jedi’s first assistant director, created it, with Tomblin directing.

The movie is a fictional account of Davis’ decision to become an actor and act as Wicket. It also follows his transformation into Wicket. As Warwick and as Wicket, he visits and interacts with many of the cast and crew of the movie and even the characters of the movie (sometimes both). He interacts with Luke Skywalker as he jumps out of a movie screen and the whole main cast in their dressing rooms. Then he goes to Jabba’s Palace, Dagobah to see Yoda, the Death Star where he sees Darth Vader. He is even chased by fan favorite Boba Fett.

The movie never got a full legal release and the copies floating around on the Internet are bootlegs from fan showings. Is it worth watching in that form? Oh yeah! It is loaded with laughs and inside jokes, that are sure to please fans and as a real bonus their is virtually no post production work done on it, so it looks and especially sounds really raw. So why not sit back and geek out during lunch today with “Return of the Ewok”.
