Mr. Whipple was played by the very talented Dick Wilson. Who many of you might remember from his recurring role on Bewitched. These commercials ran from roughly 1964 to 1985 and Wilson at one point was polled as one of the most recognizable faces in the United States. Wilson, who starred in over 500 Charmin commercials, died in 2007 at the ripe old age of 91.
In 2007 the last Mr. Whipple commercial aired as a tribute and featured clips from earlier recorded commercials. Now we have the Charmin bears, which are cute, but really lack the iconic punch of Whipple. C’mon Charmin, it’s time to get a Whipple back in the game. It’s time for Whipple 2.0 to take the stage. Make him the son of Whipple and cast Dennis Franz. Our new millennium Whipple needs to RAGE against people squeezing Charmin. It must be restrained heart-wrenching rage like he hiding a hidden pain. Perhaps he never lived up to his father’s expectations?
Until Charmin takes my suggestions, you will have to make due with the classic. Enjoy this early Whipple commercial:
