Actually, I was reading a lot of comic books at that time but this 4 issue limited series by Marvel Comics giving the lowdown on all of the Transformers was what I had tucked away in my book binder at school, within easy reach…because why would I want to know about math when I could learn more about Thundercracker and Wheeljack?

Okay, first of all I believe we can all agree that the Autobot known as Wheeljack is in fact the greatest Transformer ever. I might be a little biased as he was the first Transformer I ever purchased…but after an hour of reading file cards on every Autobot and Decepticon they had…I’m positive I made the right decision.
Looking on that awesome bit of Cosplay by Scream01 over at deviantART makes me think that:
A) That is a nice looking Star Wars standup arcade cabinet behind Wheeljack.
B) I would not only wear this costume for Halloween but to work every day of my life…I might not even remove it…ever.
Take at look at these photos taken of Scream01’s outfit by Rev. Xanatos Satanicos Bombasticos over on Flickr. The “fins” to the side of Wheeljack’s head light up like when he would speak in the animated series! Bravo to Scream01 because this bit of Cosplay is just full of win.
What you are about to read is a true story. When the Transformers toys finally reached my neck of the woods I was already in a frenzy thanks to the animated commercials I witnessed while watching He-Man and the Masters of the Universe after school. From a fellow student at school, his mother worked for Wal-Mart, I learned they were now on the shelves and my poor Father in what could only have been a hope that I would stop talking about Transformers every waking moment agreed to take me to the store and buy one.
Imagine my surprise when I saw all the beautiful boxed Transformers with their wonderful illustrations promising robotic adventure the likes I could never have imagined…had profile cards on the back describing almost everything a young boy would want to know about the robot in disguise he was about to buy. This caused a small problem though. I had to read them all and I needed to make a ‘mature’ decision on if I should have my Father buy me an Autobot or Decepticon.
I ended up standing in front of the display for over an hour and a half, weighing my decision carefully, putting one back and picking up another to be put back down a few moments later. It was finally down to two Autobots, Hound and Wheeljack. I liked the look of Hound in his military jeep form so I decided to go for him, but while we were standing in line I had the realization that this was not the correct choice, “This guy is a daisy picker!”, I suddenly said out loud…way too loud. To this day I have no idea what made me say that or where I had even heard the phrase. It did however cause everyone in line to bust out laughing while I frantically ran back to pick up my first Transformer, Wheeljack.
To this day he is still my favorite of the Autobots, I just can’t help but love a character that is described as being a mad scientist. My reaction to his demise in the animated movie…well, that is another true story for a later date. A big thanks to the very talented MarkerGuru from at deviantART for this incredible Wheeljack illustration. He should be good because he is also known as Alex Milne and works for IDW freelance on the Transformers line of comics!
