Arrested Development: Star Wars - Title card

Arrested Development: Star Wars?

Yes, it is indeed May the 4th and we totally know what that means. It is time once again to celebrate what has commonly been referenced as Star Wars Day. Although if we are being totally honest – most fans of the franchise consider May 25th to be the actual day of celebration. On the other hand, it’s easily understandable why the joking use of the iconic “May the Force be with you.” gained traction. It is in fact rather catchy and illustrates the fun that exists within the community, especially when it produces the likes of Arrested Development: Star Wars, right?

Arrested Development: Star Wars actually hit the internet on May 2nd. Produced for the Star Wars YouTube channel. Furthermore it was debuted on the popular Star Wars Show, where Ron Howard happened to be a guest. Of course he was on to discuss his upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story, due to hit theaters on May 25th.

During the show the celebrated Director and star of Happy Days was given a special quiz. Entitled Han(z) or Fonz, Howard was asked a series of questions to see if he could determine which icon they applied to. Obviously the entire thing is a skit, meant only to be humorous. Ron getting schooled leads to him attempting to make up for his score by delivering an abbreviated narration for Star Wars: A New Hope. Resulting in Arrested Development: Star Wars!

I probably should add that if you are interested in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story. The interview on the Star Wars Show is certainly more than a fluff piece. Ron Howard really gets into what attracted him to the story as well as the characters. Moreover, you will also get a chance to see Ron and George Lucas hang out at the Falcon’s Dejarik Board!

So go ahead and set aside about three minutes of your time and check out Arrested Development: Star Wars!

Also since this is Star Wars Day you can check out all of the sweet, sweet merchandise being offered.

Seriously, the amount of items and products being offered is far, far too many to list here. So instead I am including this link to the official Star Wars site where you can check out all the stuff yourself.

Use the Power of the Fur, Hello Kitty!

Oh yes, this is a Hello Kitty-themed article!

Taken by the author, May 2014.

May the Fourth Be With You…

…and also with you.

Couldn’t resist!

First of all, a very happy May the 4th to all of you. May the fourth be with you always!

On the fly, I was asked by the wonderful Vic Sage if I had anything Star Wars to contribute. Now, I could celebrate the day in my usual way by watching the commercials from the trainwreck known as the Star Wars Holiday Special, given the incredible RiffTrax treatment, but I wrote about that last year.

I can also regale you with pictures (see Exhibit A above) that I’ve taken of my various Star Wars-themed toys for previous May the 4th celebrations…

From 2015

I could do all this (and I sorta have), but I’d be remiss if I didn’t share with you this one particular gem I found a few years ago during my Hello Kitty collecting days.

Cat Wars…We’re Talking About CAT WARS!

You’ll never get this old Saturday Night Live reference out of your head!

This little segment is from the 1987 cartoon Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater, which parodied various popular movies, as well as fairy tales and well-known stories. It seems that in 1987, Star Wars was a relevant aspect of pop culture (as was E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, for some reason), so of course, they parodied it.

In this segment, Kitty plays Princess Leia, while her friends Tuxedo Sam, Chip, and My Melody take on the roles of Luke Skywalker, C3PO, and R2-D2-inspired characters, respectively. Kitty’s father, Papa Kitty, takes on the role of the Obi-Wan Kenobi-type, while antagonistic Catnip fits in nicely as Darth Vader.

Yes, I’ve seen this before. I also know my Sanrio characters. I’m just that kind of geek. :-)

There’s also The Fur (The Force), and a bit of an itchy situation.

Go on and click play, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

May the 4th Be With These 1978 Commercials!

There’s a bit of an overkill vibe of “May the 4th Be With You” floating around the interwebs today. You’d think it’s some kind of official holiday, wouldn’t you?

I think we can all agree to disagree,The Star Wars Holiday Special made a great case for why we don’t celebrate Life Day, but actual Star Wars cannon makes a great case for why we celebrate May 4th as Star Wars Day.

Another thing we can all agree on? How great these 1978 commercials that aired during the holiday special are…when riffed by Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy of RiffTrax and Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame.

Oh, and…you want Tobor. Because he’s probably some long-lost scrapped Star Wars character who got his own toy, complete with not-so-subliminal advertising pitch from Michael J. Nelson!

Allison is the collector of commercials, and commercials with RiffTrax commentary on them? They’re even better! She’d love for you to stop by her blog, Allison’s Written Words to see some of what she has in her collection, and would love for you to follow her blog on Facebook, if you like a little randomness and geekiness in your Facebook feed. And who doesn’t? You can also find her on Twitter @AllisonGeeksOut.

Allison doesn’t want Tobor.
