Dr. Kildare sings Close to You

I listened to The Carpenters a lot as child thanks to my mother who was a big fan. Consequently, I’m very familiar with their 1970 hit ‘Close To You’ and I’ve always assumed that they were the first to sing this classic. Not so. The Burt Bacharach & Hal David lyrics were actually penned 7 years earlier with the slightly lengthier title ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’.

Better yet, the song was released by Dr. Kildare himself, Richard Chamberlain!

As good as Chamberlain is however, you can’t beat the Rick Moranis version in the film Parenthood!

Sing along everyone… Why do birds suddenly appear, ev’ry time you are near? Just like me, they long to be close to you…
