Once you have conquered Peachy’s 8-bit Tombs, you need something triumphant to celebrate. What better way to celebrate than with a rousing 8-bit rendition of the Theme to Indiana Jones.
I was playing TMNT on XBLA the other night and it really got me in a Turtles kind of mood. After I finished playing I watched the original movie and then went to sleep dreaming about all those wonderful Turtle tie-in products that filled my belly in the 1980s and 1990s. When I woke up in the morning, this new 8-bit version of the Turtles theme had been uploaded by Peachy. I am pretty sure Peachy has cameras hidden in my house…which makes me kinda nervous, but on the other hand, I cannot argue with results. Turtle Power!
Peachy, who now has a Facebook page, occasionally releases very cool 8-bit demakes of popular music. His most recent should be familiar to Pixies or Fight Club movie fans, Where is my mind, from the album, Surfer Rosa.
One listen and you will be craving a Fight Club C64 game.
If you listen to the Retroist Podcast, you probably hear the music of site regular Peachy all the time. In addition to making very fine original music he also engages in a hobby. He likes to remake or “demake” classic TV shows in 8-bit format. He just released a fresh crop of them on his Soundcloud page and each one is wonderful (I am sure you will hear them again on some future podcast). So give them a listen, download them and enjoy some re-interpreted TV audio magic.
I had planned on having this up yesterday but I’m afraid that work was just too hectic, I also feel this would have been better suited for the Forums but until those Gremlins keep yanking out the wires I’ll have to share it here.
I realize that my picks will probably be far different than all of yours so I do hope you’ll share your own in the comments, picking just 5 was pretty hard for me to do this year.
2) Rise of the Planet of the Apes
3) Super 8
4) X-Men: First Class
5) Real Steel
A very big thanks to Retroist Regular, Peachy, for the artwork up top.
