“Haunted House” By Jumpin’ Gene Simmons (1964)

With Halloween getting nearer I find that after getting off work I’ll normally crash in front of the record player and listen to some vintage Halloween audio treats. On 1988’s Elvira Presents: Haunted Hits there is wonderful selection of songs ranging from the “Monster Mash” by Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers to “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” by the Cramps.

While I didn’t pick up the record originally in 1988, it was probably about ten years later when I added it to my collection it was the first time I heard Jumpin’ Gene Simmons’ 1964 hit novelty song “Haunted House”.

Jumpin’ Gene Simmons got his start at Sun Records back in 1958, he was actually the opening act for a little known singer named Elvis Presley. Simmons’ only top 40 hit was his cover of “Haunted House” which was in fact originally recorded by Johnny Fuller in 1958.
