Okay. Make sure to turn the sound up on your speakers and turn off all of the lights so that you can better appreciate this new trailer for the Guillermo del Toro produced remake of the 1973 TV movie cult classic, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Directed by Troy Nixey and starring Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison, the film will hit the big screen on August 26th.
I have to add something here before you get to the trailer. I have the privilege of working at a 176 year old Inn for a living, just a few second after the 40 second mark, “Her name is Sally…”, some of the breakers flipped and plunged the lobby into darkness. I would imagine if you were in the lobby with me and saw how quick I jumped up from my seat, you would probably have said that I would have resembled Roy Scheider from the moment in Jaws when he first sees the size of the shark they are trying to hunt.
Thanks to Ain’t It Cool News for the heads up on the new trailer and Empire for posting it!
A huge thanks to Fangoria for this look at the poster of the upcoming, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark. This remake of the original 1973 is produced by Guillermo del Toro (Chronos, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) and directed by Troy Nixie (Latchkey’s Lament) and stars Katie Holmes (The Gift, Batman Begins), Bailee Madison (Bridge to Terabitha), and Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential, Memento, The Time Machine). Though the poster says the film will hit the Silver Screens on August 12th it will actually come out on the 26th.
I was just a wee bit too young to watch Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark when it first aired on ABC back in 1973, I did however catch it in the early hours of the morning in the 80’s on TBS while waiting to go to school…and it scared the bejeezus out of me.
Now in 2011 we are getting a remake of the 1973 version with Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, and produced by Guillermo del Toro. I had to admit when I watched the trailer below I jumped a foot out of my seat. I have high expectations for it, I mean look how great that poster is!
