Matinee - Shout Select

Shout Select Is Releasing Joe Dante’s Matinee!

I have a lot of love for the work of Joe Dante. Not just Matinee of course but Gremlins, The Howling, Explorers, Innerspace, and The ‘Burbs to name just a few of the films he has directed. Now though his 1993 film Matinee, which is an ode to the movies of William Castle is getting a Blu-Ray release by Shout Select!
Matinee - Mant!

Joe Dante has always worn his “Monster Kid” badge with pride. Growing up with the likes of Forrest J. Ackerman’s legendary Famous Monsters of Filmland helped to shape his love of horror and sci-fi films. As well as being a teenager during the Cuban Missile Crisis must have certainly left a mark. Which might indeed make Matinee a little more autobiographical as these elements naturally are the focus of the film.

“It’s 1962, and fifteen-year-old fan Gene Loomis (Simone Fenton) can’t wait for the arrival of Woolsey, who is in town to promote his latest offering of atomic power gone berserk, Mant! But the absurd vision of Woolsey’s tale takes on a sudden urgency as the Cuban Missile Crises places the real threat of atomic horror just 90 miles off the coast. With the help of Woolsey’s leading lady, Ruth (Cathy Moriarty), the master showman gives Key West a premiere they’ll never forget. Anything can happen in the movies, and everything does in this hilarious tribute to a more innocent (and outrageous) time in American cinema.”

Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood “Scream 4 Terror Tram”

Thanks to Famous Monsters of Filmland for the heads up on the latest announcement concerning Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights! Like the Alice Cooper announcement a couple of weeks back this concerns only the Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights. It looks like attendees of the Hollywood event this year are going to be menaced by Wes Craven’s 1996 Ghostface Killer from the Scream films!

“New “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” Experience at Universal Studios Hollywood Sets “Ghostface Killer” Loose on the World-Famous Backlot During “Halloween Horror Nights”

“Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life,” based on the latest installment of Wes Craven’s “Scream” film series, will unleash the iconic “Ghostface Killer” on the world-famous backlot during Halloween Horror Nights® at Universal Studios Hollywood(SM).

Mirroring the “Scream 4? film concept of a “movie-within-a-movie” theme, the “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” experience will introduce guests to the fictional “Stab” slasher film franchise and beckon them to visit the production of “Stab 8,” currently “shooting on location on the backlot.”

The fantasy world of the movie collides with reality when aboard “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” guests are transported through Universal’s famed backlot—the heart of the world’s most famous horror moviemaking studio–and find themselves being stalked by one of the most dangerous slashers in horror history: Ghostface.

“Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” casts guests as victims in this living horror film and elevates the “Halloween Horror Nights” experience to astounding new levels of blood-curdling realism.

To create the ultimate “Halloween Horror Nights” nightmare, Universal Studios Hollywood assembled a horror “dream team” of filmmakers and stars who are serving as creative consultants to Universal’s Creative Director, John Murdy. The team includes director, writer, producer and actor Eli Roth, who will present the new maze, “Eli Roth’s Hostel: Hunting Season,” the legendary rocker Alice Cooper, who will present “Alice Cooper: Welcome to My Nightmare,” and multi-platinum recording artist and filmmaker Rob Zombie who returns with “Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses: In 3D ZombieVision.” “The Thing: Assimilation,” inspired by Universal Pictures’ upcoming thriller, will add to the Hollywood horror clout.

“Halloween Horror Nights” 2011 will bring unprecedented star power to an array of unrivaled, film production quality mazes uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties and deliver the most compelling, spine-chilling, haunted attractions. All-new terror filled “scare zones,” original shows and the popular “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” will be among the “Halloween Horror Nights” offerings.

The theme park’s favorite thrill-ride attractions will also remain open for “Halloween Horror Nights,” one with a menacing twist. “Jurassic Park® In the Dark” makes its seasonal debut, while guests can still enjoy favorites like “The Simpsons Ride(TM)” and “Revenge of the Mummy(SM) – The Ride.”

Updates on “Halloween Horror Nights” are available at Halloween Horror Nights.com and also on Twitter and Facebook, as Creative Director John Murdy reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information. Fans are invited to follow John Murdy on Twitter at: Twitter.com/HorrorNights or via Facebook at: “Halloween Horror Nights – Hollywood (Official).”

“Halloween Horror Nights” will take place on select nights beginning September 23 and continue on September 24, 30; October 1,7, 8,9, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31.”

Halloween Horror Nights started back in 1991 and was originally entitled Fright Nights for its first year before changing to it’s familiar name in 1992. It was 2000 when the Orlando Universal Studios found it’s very first Icon of Horror in the demented and supernaturally evil…Jack!

If you want to see more of the legacy of the famed and award winning event, make sure to visit the Halloween Horror Nights site, click on the Orlando section to see it’s incredible Legacy and Lore. You also still have time to join the 118,328 people like myself that are playing the mini-games offered on the site to get a sneak peek at what the storyline and Icon for this, their 21st year happens to be.

If you are a Horror fan…you owe it to yourself to check out the site and with October fast approaching you can be sure that I’ll be posting more and more about my favorite theme park…and remember when diving into this year’s fun and games:

Alice Cooper Halloween Horror Nights 2011 Announcement!

I know that I am not in the minority here when I agree that Summer is a perfect time to turn your attention to Horror Movies…don’t believe me? Just you take a moment and read our own Daniel Th1rte3n’s wonderful post on the subject!

Even in these days of triple digit heat if I stop long enough I can sometimes hear just the faintest whispers of the songs of the Autumn People on the winds. I might even catch the quick scent of decaying leaves and I’m almost, almost mind you, transported immediately to October 31st. Laughing and running knee-deep through the fallen leaves of my youth with the taste of Tootsie-Rolls in my mouth, so jam packed that it’s become a chocolate glue.

Then it’s gone again and Summer’s oppressive heat is back. But even in this time of year there is the promise of Horror to come thanks to Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando with their Halloween Horror Nights! Who better than the Studio who gave life to the legendary Universal Monsters to bring us thrills and chills all these many years?

A big thanks to Famous Monsters of Filmland for this announcement by Alice Cooper himself on the creation of a Maze in his honor at the Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights!
