Airing on CBS from ’59-’63, Dennis the Menace is a TV series based on the popular and iconic Hank Ketcham comic strip of the same name. The show follows the lives of the Mitchell family -Henry, Alice, and their only child, Dennis. Dennis is an energetic, well meaning, but trouble-prone boy, and sometimes a mischievous child. He often tangles with peace-and-quiet-loving neighbor, George Wilson. Available for the first time on any home entertainment format, Season Three brings you all 38 original uncut episodes in a 5-disc set. Stars: Jay North, Herbert Anderson, and Gloria Henry.
I have been hooked on the predictable and affable Dennis since picking up and rediscovering the series with Season 1 and yes I will reiterate (like I said about season 1 and 2), this is pure comfort TV. And they give you a lot of comfort for you money. Season 3 includes a whopping 38 original episodes.
I am a classic TV nut most of the time and Dennis the Menace has been a very welcome addition to my stable of comfort shows. If you have not seen the show and appreciate TV of that era, give it a shot. If you did not enjoy the show when you were younger, take a look at it with new eyes. I think you will find that the show has merits you may have missed out on when you were younger.
The comic misadventures of television’s most well-meaning but misguided boy are back! The lovable Dennis Mitchell (Jay North) left a trail of chaos throughout his suburban neighborhood. Yet along with his friends and classmates Tommy (Billy Booth) and Margaret (Jeannie Russell), Dennis managed to pry his way into the hearts of millions from week to week. Based on the long-running comic strip by Hank Ketcham, this beloved CBS television series (1959 1963) stayed true to form, as Dennis’s youthful curiosity always managed to get him into heaps of trouble . . . especially with his crotchety old neighbor Mr. Wilson (Joseph Kearns). Herbert Anderson and Gloria Henry starred as Dennis’ parents who were always on hand with love and guidance but not necessarily the required supervision.
More Dennis you say? Yes please! I was a bit cynical when I decided to watch Season 1 of the series a few months ago, but after a few episodes, I was hooked. The show is simple and predictable, but it has some real warmth that I have used more then a few time in recent months to help clear my brain before going to sleep. Yes I will reiterate (like I said about season 1), this is pure comfort TV.
The set includes all 38 original episodes from season 2. (Crazy they made so many episodes in a season back then.) It also has 1 extra:
