Every time I catch a glimpse of the 5-disc Blade Runner Collectors DVD boxset on my shelf at home, I think to myself “I wonder if that really is the *final* version of the film?”. I’m kidding of course, I don’t think that all – I have the theatrical cut, the directors cut, the international cut and the “final cut” already. What more could be added?
Thankfully, the final cut really is the last cut for Deckard and company, so here we have a brand new final cut trailer, edited together by the BFI for a British cinema re-release in April.
Ridley Scott writes “This new trailer captures the essence of the film and I hope will inspire a new generation to see Blade Runner when it is re-released across the UK on 3 April”.
For me this trailer sells the movie perfectly, but then I’ve seen the film a dozen times in the last 20 years. I’m not sure that it will entice new viewers, it just feels a little spartan, as if nothing really happens. Perhaps I’ve been compelled to believe that all modern genre trailers should be full of spoilers and explosions?
