Toon In: Munro (1960)

Welcome back to another installment of Toon In, that time of the week where we can share a particular cartoon or animate short worthy of your viewing. This week we have the 1961 Oscar nominated short entitled Munro, a story of a four year old boy that gets drafted in the United States Army.

Written by Jules Feiffer, adapted actually from his novel Passionella and Other Stories, it is a nice bit of thumbing of the nose of the Author based on his own time in the military. Feiffer while being a respected satirist won the Pulitzer Prize back in 1986 and even worked with the legendary Will Eisner (The Spirit) in the 1945, which is appropriate as he was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2004.

Besides winning the 1961 Oscar for Animated Short Film, Munro was selected by the Academy Film Archive for preservation. So Toon In and find out if Munro will be able to make the adults around him see reason…or if he will have to go to war!
