I’m not sure how I kind of became the unofficial town crier for Kickstarter campaigns of late…oh wait…I DO know! It’s because there has been an amazing amount of cool stuff getting the Kickstarter treatment in the last few weeks.
Like this 320 page retrospective on the art of Mike Ploog! A look at his comic book work such as Werewolf By Night, Ghost Rider, The Monster of Frankenstein, and Man-Thing from his days with Marvel Comics. Then of course there are the storyboards he did for the likes of Ralph Bakshi’s The Lord of the Rings, Hey Good Lookin’, and of course for Wizards.
Mike also worked on John Carpenter’s The Thing, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Dark Crystal, Labrinyth, Little Shop of Horrors, and Superman II to a name a few.
Some of those storyboards which you can see for yourself are included in the limited edition versions of the book, you will actually have an original storyboard for select films.
At of the time of this writing the goal for the campaign was to secure $18,500 in funding, they already have $61,160 with 24 days to go! But you can still hop on over to the Art of Ploog Kickstarter and help them reach their second stretch goal, which will be a softcover book of storyboard sequences.
From the Kickstarter Page:
“Hello, fellow Ploog fans! We are happy to tell you that the wait is over. Finally, a comprehensive art book on Mike Ploog is in the works. This 9″ x 12″, 320-page retrospective will cover almost every aspect of Mike’s career, from his earliest days of working with “Leatherneck Magazine,” while he was still in the Marines, right up through his latest work on “Goliath.” “The Art of Ploog” will contain, quite literally, hundreds of pieces of art from throughout his career, as well as commentary by the master himself.
You’ll find all his best known works in this book. Included is the work he did for Marvel comics (on titles such as “Frankenstein,” “Ghost Rider,” “Planet of the Apes,” and “Werewolf By Night”), as well as a wide range of his film work on animated features (such as “Lord of the Rings,” “Prince of Egypt,” “Shrek,” and “Wizards”) and live-action features (including “Little Shop of Horrors,” “John Carpenter’s THE THING,” and “X-MEN”). The book will also contain many of his most popular paintings; paintings that were created for his own fantasy art trading card series; as well as paintings he worked on for the collectible card games “Guardians” and “Magic the Gathering,” most of which have never been reproduced larger than trading card size. It’s the ultimate collection spanning his entire career.
This is the book for all our fellow Ploogies out there. We hope you’ll join us for the most comprehensive work ever produced on the magical worlds of Mike Ploog.”
