Retro Records: Walt Disney Productions’ Story Of The Black Hole (1979)

Welcome back to a new installment of Retro Records. This time we are going to be taking a listen to the LP for 1979’s Walt Disney Productions’ Story of the Black Hole. Unlike the Read-Along Book and Record version this LP is made up of sound effects, dialogue, and music from the actual film with the addition of a narrator to help keep moving the story along.

To be honest this is the first time I’ve heard about this record but after listening to it I definitely want to track it down and add it to my collection. I wonder what other films Walt Disney released records like this for?

Ah, man.I haven’t seen, or thought about, this in so long. I remember playing this over and over again as I attempted to draw stuff from the cover. Crazy!

Oh……I had this when I was a kid. I completely forgot until I saw this post. I love this movie. Any chance you can post the similar Star Wars and Indiana Jones ones, too ?

  3. Aeryk, like I mentioned in the post this is the first time I’ve had the pleasure of listening to this record…and I’ve put it on an almost continuous loop since. :)

SF, let me see what I can find!

Never had this one, but I did have a bunch of the book & tape sets for Disney movies and Atari games

  5. Oh man, that narrator takes me back!
I also loved the Disney Sounds of OuterSpace album, which has some Sentries on the album cover.

  6. I hear that, Max! Dex1138, I was originally trying to find the Sounds of Outer Space album to share on Retro Records when I found this particular recording. I too owned SoOS…it was a fantastic record!

  7. Dex…you know how to contact me. :D

Plcary, I would love to own this album and while I think it would look fantastic at Arkadia…if I’m honest with myself…I have to tell you it’s coming home with me. Ha, ha.

  8. Atari Adventure Square says:

Story albums with actual movie sounds and dialogue were not too common, but way more cooler.
    This one proves it.
The Star Wars Story (with the cover of Threepio and Artoo on Tatooine) took me back to the movie like a waking dream, every time.

On a side note: When will DIsney release this on Blu-Ray?

eh…not the story record – the movie.

I found a digital copy of this album about a month before you posted this while downloading the movie soundtrack. It is a great find.
