Old school gaming can mean different things to all of us here at The Retroist. I am old enough to claim this as my first video gaming experience. I picked this up for $2 yesterday at an annual indoor garage sale near where I live. It is the APF TV FUN game system. I fired it up and was quickly playing a challenging game of Pong.

As you can see from the control panel it features 4 different games. All of which involve hitting a square ball with your paddle. Also two difficulty settings to make the game even more exciting! The sounds of the game come through a small speaker just below the game selection switch. It also offers the option of using six C cell batteries to power the game. Find yourself a battery operated tv and you could have had one of the first portable gaming systems. Imagine hauling this game and one of those little 5 inch televisions to school and be the envy of all your classmates. Now what to do with this piece of gaming history? Perhaps I can donate it to VicSage at Arkadia Retrocade so others can enjoy an exciting game of Pong.

I love retro toys, television, movies and just about anything from the 70s and 80s.I frequent flea markets, thrift shops, garage sales and auctions hoping to nab my next pop culture trophy.

  1. Wow, this dredges up vague, early memories for me. These appear to have come out the year I was born, so I didn’t have one myself, but I definitely remember seeing them around.
