I would have enjoyed being a local advertisement designer in the early 1980s, because I knew the secret to memorable advertising back then. A grid. Just take whatever product you are selling, throw a grid behind it or in front of it and…boom! You go from boring 1970s to exciting and modern 1980s in the blink of an eye.
With a book of clipart and a pad of graph paper I could have become a local advertising kingpin.
