“R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas” (1980)

All of us here at the Retroist hope you and yours are having a very safe and Happy Holiday! Why not take just a moment to go back in time to 1980 and listen to this track from the Christmas in the Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album entitled “R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas”?

A fun little fact about this song is that it the lead vocals were recorded by one John Bongiovi, yep, it is Jon Bon Jovi. It has been reported that his cousin helped co-produce the album and was in charge of the studio where it was all recorded!

  1. Atari Adventure Square says:

Ah, this fine record has become my holiday staple.

Of course, the smooth piano tinklings of Vince Guaraldi still open up the season, as every note in that album matches the softly floating snow, or the swift skating on fresh ice that accompanies the tradition.

But my favorite droids fretting and merrily beeping through the pre-Christmas week?
That is the pure essence of those family holiday Star Wars years as a hopeful Jedi youngster.

Yes, add my vote for having the next Retroist decade decked with tracks from this great album.
