I think the Wizard of Oz is a great way to sell a product. It has memorable characters and a colorful backdrop that makes it perfect for a camera commercial. So I am not surprised that Minolta decided to use it in the mid-eighties to promote their “Freedom II” and “Talker” camera. Still I think that because the theme of the commercial is so memorable, the products get lost in the shuffle and needed to more prominently discussed or displayed.
Especially the “Talker”, which I would think would get annoying now, but back in the 1980s, it would have felt like I had a robot in my pocket.
