This ad for the Kodamatic Instant Camera has a magic theme which was a perfect way to describe the technology back in 1982. My family never owned an instant camera, but when I saw them at events I obsessed over the immediacy of the gratification and would always volunteer to shake the photo so that it would develop faster. I would later learn that this is not suggested behavior, but boy was it satisfying.
The best thing about this ad is that it featured David Copperfield, whose name is not mentioned once in the ad. People who didn’t live through his heyday might not realize this, but New Jersey’s own Copperfield was such a big name that to many he was instantly recognizable.
