Do you remember the HBO Series “Remember When”?

This show, which ran from 1981-1985 was hosted by Dick Cavett and was a follow-up to the series “Time Was”. Each episode took a look back at a time in history or an event and used footage, photos and quality narration to get us to “Remember When”.

This show often ran early in the morning and I was completely addicted to it, sometimes setting my alarm clock to 6 AM just to make sure I could catch an episode (before we got a VCR). I can still remember the mournful theme song and how both excited and melancholy it made me feel.

I keep hoping that HBO will release it on DVD or start re-airing it somewhere else. In the meantime, I have had to make do with episodes that I find hosted online. Here is part 1 of the episode called “The Image Makers”, I hope you enjoy it as much I do.

  1. I have to admit, when I saw the post title in my newsfeed I was hoping it was a typo and you were talking about “Remember WENN”.

I do remember this show. I haven’t found anything except a few youtube videos. I wish hbo would release it on dvd or for download.

I would LOVE to see it on DVD!! My favorite episode was “it’ll never fly”. All about inventions and Dick’s delivery of “sitting in the living room listening to grandma die…” when describing Edison’s reason for the phonograph is priceless!
