Diet Coke commercial with Superstars Willard Scott & Marvelous Marvin Hagler

I showed this commercial to a younger friend of mine and he hadn’t heard of either Willard Scott or Marvin Hagler. So for those of you who did not live in the 1980s or do not enjoy birthday shout outs to old people and great boxers, I can assure you that Mr. Hagler and Mr. Scott were both household name in much of the United States when this commercial ran in 1986. Scott, who was the original Ronald McDonald was a weather personality and New Jersey’s Marvin Haggler was the undisputed World Middleweight Champion from 1980 to 1987.

So now that you are familiar with the star power of this commercial, I would also like to point that it contains a lot of great 1980s music and fashion. Including a very awesome flaming saxophone shot (pictured above).

  1. That was a fantastically 80s commercial. Loved it.

So your younger friend never heard of one of the best middleweight fighters of all time? Shame. Next you’ll say he never heard of Sugar Ray Leonard.
