Can you trade in your 7 Up for a Sprite?

Well if it was the mid-eighties and the clerk behind the counter was Bill Fagerbakke, who is most famous for playing Michael “Dauber” Dybinski on the TV series Coach and Patrick on SpongeBob SquarePants, than the answer is yes! But be warned this giant of a clerk is going to take a very mild amount of convincing.

In the 1980s I remember the lemon-lime soda wars seems to really be heating up. My family, being Bubble Up drinkers, really wasn’t involved until they stopped selling our precious Bubble Up and then we went with whatever was on sale.

  1. The lemon lime sodas never did much for me, they were good on occasion when I wanted something “light” tasting, but 99% of the time I preferred something with more flavor (cola, root beer, etc). Even when I did want a lighter flavor, I still preferred mellow yellow or mountain dew over sprite/7-up. When I did go for sprite/7-up, it was 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, there was no significant difference in the flavors until around the late 90s/early 2k, when 7up “enhanced” their flavor, which really just made it taste more like the rind *blech*.
