I can’t say I have been to a “biker bar” in my life. The media has made them out to be terrifying places that squares like myself need not enter. But this commercial from the mid-eighties for A&W Root Beer makes a compelling case for visiting one. In it a hapless little guy, lets call him “Me”, enters the bar because he is lost and instead of being threatened and tossed out, they buy him an ice-cold mug of A&W Root Beer. Ice cold soft drinks? An arcade game in the corner? An accepting atmosphere?
I guess I was completely wrong about biker bars. It just goes to show you shouldn’t believe everything you see in movies and television, unless it is during the commercials.
