I can honestly say that 1987’s ‘The Monster Squad’ is one of my favorite films of all time. Director Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps) who not only helmed the picture and co-wrote the screenplay with Shane Black (Iron Man Three) knocked it out of the park with a nice blend of 80s kids against the forces of darkness, a mixture of humor and horror and a film that I can watch over and over again.
Of course Stan Winston’s designs for what is essentially the archtypes of the Universal Monsters also helped to make this a love letter to all of us horror fans.
But the one thing we were sorely missing back in 1987 was merchandise for the film, but thankfully we have Shawn Robare who you might know from his awesome Branded in the 80s website picking up the slack after 27 years! Behold the wax wrapper…a ‘lost’ item…from the Topps trading cards. More than that, make sure to hop on over to Branded in the 80s to see the cards that Robare created for ‘A Month of Monster Squad’, keep visiting and get new cards!
You don’t have to take my word for it that what Shawn has created is incredibly fantastic, even Fred Dekker shared them on his Facebook page!
