The Sands Hotel operated from December 15, 1952, to June 30, 1996 on the Las Vegas strip. I knew close to nothing of Las Vegas growing up, but I knew about the Sands because I had an Aunt who went their once in the 1960s. She brought back photos and ephemera that pretty much defined Las Vegas for the entire family. When I would spot ads in magazines for the Sands, I would cut them out and show them to her. I am not sure why I did that, maybe I thought she would want to go back there one day and these ads might help her keep tabs on how the place was developing?
I did not get to Vegas before it closed, but the memories of her photos and the ads I saved for her live on.
