When Hyundai launched itself into the American market, a bunch of people in my neighborhood bought them. My family, being Oldsmobile people, wanted nothing to do with them, but I had to admit, I was intrigued. I knew so little about this company and its vehicles, so they seemed exotic to me and when a new one showed up on the block I was always one of the first ones to crowd around it and check it out.
Our local Hyundai commercials were sort of flat dealer-based affairs or bland national ads, nothing like this magnificent space inspired commercial for the Hyundai Stellar ad that ran in Korea. If they ran this ad in my area, my family would have gotten a weekly earful about the merits of owning a Stellar (even though they were not available in the US because of emissions standards).
The Stellar was launched in 1983, so this ad, which is labeled from 1985 is still pretty early in the model run. Designed by famed Italian automobile designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Stellar was discontinued in 1997.
