Wigwam Athletic Socks

I was buying socks at the store the other day, a very glamorous errand. While browsing the racks I noted that my choices at the store, while ample, consisted of basically two colors in athletic socks, white or black. I think I also saw some grey, but what was missing were the striped athletic socks of my youth. I am not sure when they fell out of fashion, I know I was still getting them in the 1990s, but now…gone.

My family usually bought some really low quality generic brands on sale. The way that I burned through socks, I completely understand. But even those of us who trucked in cheaper socks knew that the gold standard back in the day for socks was the Wigwam.

Our Cadillac socks were Thor-Lo’s. First saw them at Herman’s World of Sporting Goods – pretty reasonable, too. THEN they caught on and the price soared. That sucked. THEN we had to find knock-off Thor-Lo’s.

We always bought Wigwam rag wool socks for use with our boots during the winter. They THEY got expensive and we were getting knock-off rag wool socks.

    Such is life.

Those would look great pulled up with some nylon shorts and an EPCOT T-shirt
