The song “Cool it Now” by New Edition was released in 1984 and at its peak, hit #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song is catchy and heck, sounds good as much of New Edition’s song do. While the message of the song is universal, it’s the music video that draws my attention. I grew up in Queens, New York during the 1980s & 90s and while I do not have many fond memories of that time & place, the few I have are brought to mind when I see this video. The kids playing basketball in the park and hanging out in the streets of the city reminds me of my time with my group of buds before high school forced us into different directions. That neighborhood could have easily been my own. One thing I need to mention, New Edition dressed helluva lot better than me!
