James Bond Book Cover Art by Frank McCarthy

Frank Mccarthy Bond

I’ve written here before about my love for James Bond and the incredible artwork that usually accompanies the film series but I’ve yet to mention that the artwork isn’t limited to the films. Bond of course began with the written word and the images on the front covers of those books served as the only visual cue to the story within.

Helping to sell these stories were artists like Frank McCarthy who created some very pulpy imagery for From Russia With Love, Doctor No, Casino Royale and Goldfinger.

McCarthy was no stranger to the world of James Bond, creating one of my all-time favourite Bond posters for You Only Live Twice with fellow artist Robert McGinnis.

The “pictures paimted on top of pictures” look of the top 4 remind me of Atari box art.
