I want to give a huge thanks to Lauren Davis of io9 for sharing this absolutely mesmerizing animated horror short entitled ‘Francis’. After watching this short I found myself not only with a very wide smile plastered on my face but goosebumps on my arms and the hairs of the back of my neck standing at attention.

It’s a campfire style story by novelist and screenwriter Dave Eggers (Where The Wild Things Are) with more than a few retro Easter eggs hidden in the video, but more importantly it’s a very solid horror tale of why one should be careful of going out on the lake alone in the dead of night.

From the Vimeo page:
“The story of ‘Francis’ came about interestingly from famed radio show ‘This American Life’. Broadcaster Ira Glass asked 6 American writers to create a short story about Adventure. One ofthese stories written by novelist & screenwriter Dave Eggers, it was read on the show to much acclaim and praise., Richard worked with producer Kevin Batten & a team to turn the words into this short. He worked on the film tirelessly & had 40 people work on all elements of the animation. The film has been shown at Cannes Film Festival and Raindance.”
