White Wizzard Casts Metal Fury…Roll For Your Hearing Damage!

Hey ghouls, hearing of the untimely passing of legendary Dungeons and Dragons artist David A. Trampier set the ol’ Ouija Board Kids mind racing back to headier days when I would traverse strange lands with a group of caffeine fueled cohorts! And as we rolled those dice and battled gruesome foes, are ears were assaulted by an aural attack of some of the finest heavy metal bands to ever stride the Earth upon denim and leather covered legs.

Now sadly my D&D days seem to be a thing of the past, but my love of metal continues unabated, as I’m always on the look out for music that brings to mind those glorious days of gaming past. To that end I offer you one of my personal favorites that keeps the spirit of 80’s metal alive, the hard rockin’ White Wizzard!

Daniel XIII

Daniel XIII: equally at home at a seance as he is behind the keyboard! Raised on a steady diet of Son of Satan comics, Kaiju flicks and Count Chocula, ol' XIII is a screenwriter, actor, and reviewer of fright flicks! What arcane knowledge lurks behind the preternatural eyes of the Ouija Board Kid?

I’m pleasantly surprised to see this here! Though not as much as I am to see traditional 80’s-style heavy metal making a comeback in the first place. You need to check out Volture, it’s a side project of Municipal Waste’s Ryan Waste. Enforcer and Cauldron are pretty good too.

Good to hear that old time heavy metal still shaking the airwaves today.

Given the spirit of D&D permeating my mindset today, I couldn’t help but be reminded of another fine adventuring mag of that time period when seeing the band’s name.
White Dwarf sat alongside Dragon magazine in the stores and was a gift to us fans of role-playing games, as its U.K origins meant the trend had crossed the oceans and we would all be rotting our brains intercontinentally (or not), as per parental worries.

Little did the folks know, good metal music was always at hand to finish us off after role-play, as the madness of youth made way for the haberdashery of teenage years.

    And the madness carries on!
    (insert sick guitar solo here)

  3. @ddsw I’m glad you liked the piece, and thank you for your suggestions of other bands to check out!!!

@Atari Adventure Square I only knew of a few people that had some dogeared copies of White Dwarf magazine…in my tiny rural town we would sporadically see copies of Dragon on the stands, but from whence those issues of White Dwarf sprang I shall ne’er know!

  4. I have a couple of White Wizaard’s CDs, great stuff! I’d recommend Steel Panther which is 80s hair metal in its purest, most vulgar form…but in a fun way!

  5. Some recent bands with classic 80s metal sound;
    steelwing *
    striker *
    skull fist *
    enforcer *
    katana *

We should probably start a metal thread on the forum….
