For the Smart Swinger… the Dodge Dart Swinger

Dodge Dart Swinger

This 1970 Dodge print advert from Popular Mechanic magazine is just about as perfect a car ad as you’re ever likely to see in my opinion. The car itself is a thing of beauty anyway but to couple that with an innuendo-laced model name and taglines such as “if you won’t take small for an answer…”, it’s an easy sale for the smart swinger!

Yes, I know, my modern brain is probably distorting the 1970’s jingle into something more crude than the mad men intended, but you can’t tell me that this is completely innocent?

Never mind, just watch this brief video of the car and imagine the possibilities…

  1. At one point in the early/mid 80s, we had a dodge dart very similar to that yellow one, but a fugly olive green type color. I don’t remember now what model year it was, but it had to be within a couple years of that yellow one.

  2. On a side note, never stumble backward onto the door handle of one of those things. They stick out about 2 inches and have sharp corners. I fell back against one when I was 8 or 9 & have a permanent numb spot on my back as a result. (At the time I though it was just a typical bruise, it wasn’t until a couple years after the fact that I noticed the numb spot while scratching my back.)
