Did you Remember to Change the Baking Soda?

According to this ad from the 1970s from Arm & Hammer, your food depends upon the super-heroic qualities of a fresh box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to ensure freshness. My family kept a box of it in the fridge, but I am pretty sure it was not changed often. In fact, I think we only through it away when we were reminded of its age when the box became visibly damaged.

I like this commercial and the message, but I wonder who would store a delicious cupcake uncovered betwixt angry onions and an open can of smelly sardines.

I probably don’t change mine often enough, either.

Thanks for the article. I always enjoyed that ad when I was a kid.
