Welcome friends to the first installment of Sci-Fi Sunday, a little something to go along with our Retro Radio Memories and Saturday Frights segments. A big thanks by the way goes to our very own Daniel XIII for coming up with name!
For this afternoon’s viewing pleasure we felt it would be quite appropriate to have our first offering be tied into yesterday’s 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who! So after talking it over we opened the Retroist Film Vault, trust me it’s a big door, and withdrew the 1965 AARU Productions film canisters for ‘Dr. Who and the Daleks’. Their were two Doctor Who films featuring the legendary Peter Cushing in the 1960s, ‘Dr. Who and the Daleks’ in ’65 and then ‘Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D.’ a year later. There had been plans for a third film but the box office take on the second feature was underwhelming so those plans were scuttled.
It has also been noted that Peter Cushing in his autobiography made no mention whatsoever of these two films…so perhaps he wasn’t happy with the way they turned out? While some Dr. Who fans seem to look down on this film, we think you’ll find it’s a fun adventure…almost a ‘What If?’ version of the Doctor Who TV universe!
Thanks to IMP Awards for that original theatrical poster you see above.
