Saturday Frights: The Contraption – Short Film (1977)

Saturday Frights - Sean Hartter
Welcome back to all of you fans of fiendish film and TV! Those howls you hear from the creatures of the night need be no cause for alarm, you are safe down here with us in the Retroist vault! Us? Yeah, that’s the one and only Doug McCoy behind the concession stand and you can see the esteemed Daniel XIII manning the projector. We also have good friend to the Retroist site Claymation Werewolf as head usher and Phishbo3s in the ticket booth!

This short film that we have lined up for your viewing pleasure this week entitled “The Contraption” is a charmingly creepy tale that manages to pack a wallop in a short seven minutes. I originally saw this late one night on what I believe was the USA channel back in the 1980s, though part of me thinks it might even have been WGN. What I didn’t know at the time because I was too young was that it stars Richard O’Brien of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Shock Treatment fame!

It’s a simple short film, about a man who is busy building…a contraption.
