Mad Monster Party Trailer

It has always saddened me that the Rankin-Bass special “Mad Monster Party” did not achieve the popularity of the company’s Christmas specials. While we get treated to the same Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman specials each year, I went many years without seeing this one until it was released a few years ago on DVD. Featuring the voices of Boris Karloff and Phyllis Diller and that same style of animation that we grew up loving, Mad Monster Party is a classic Halloween that you should consider tracking down and sharing with your children this Halloween. (Or send them out Trick or Treating and stay home and watch it alone!)

  1. Well, it was a theatrical release, not a made-for-television special. If it had been made for TV, it might well have become an annual tradition for one network or another. Instead, it went into syndication packages, where its length played against it. Indie TV stations didn’t usually devote 2-hour movie blocks to kids’ programming in the 70s & 80s.
