It is hard for me to scoop a dollop of sour cream without proclaiming, “Not thick enough!” The answer to why can be found in this commercial that ran on TV for a couple of years in the late 1980s. I am not sure why I loved the curmudgeonly Sam Breakstone character, but it probably had to do with the performance by commercial acting genius Michael Vale. Why do you know Michael Vale? Because he was also “Fred the Baker” from the Dunkin’ Donuts commercials. Where it was always, “Time to make the donuts.” Vale really knew how to sell a product, which is why even now, the story of why Breakstone’s Sour Cream is just so thick and creamy still sticks with me.
