Footage from the Holy Grail Cult Classic Film, “The Day the Clown Cried”

Ever since I heard about the Jerry Lewis film, “The Day the Clown Cried”. I have wanted to see it. The film which was directed by and starred Jerry Lewis was completed in 1972 but never released. Why was it not released? The film is supposedly a horrible mess and this has been validated by people who saw a rough cut, including one of the writers on the show.

Oh and the film’s plot is very DARK. How dark? In the film Lewis plays a clown who works at a concentration camp, where he entertains doomed children. D.A.R.K.

I have resigned myself to never seeing this movie, so I was very surprised to see this video uploaded. It shows behind the scenes footage and interviews about the film. It is probably the closest we will every get to seeing this gem, so enjoy.

  1. You can find the script on-line. I actually read it a couple of years back and expected it to be a train wreck considering how insanely dark and radical the premise is but it was actually quite good had the potential to be a pretty moving piece.

  2. Max Power says:

There was an episode of Animaniacs where the kids had to stop the production of a movie. I knew that it was a parody of Apocalypse Now years ago. I only recently learned that it was referencing this film:
