At some point in the 1990s I was digging through some records that my sisters had abandoned and found a copy of Blondie’s Parallel Lines. I enjoyed Blondie and thought I would give it a listen. When I did I was surprised to find that I could sing along with a lot of the album. Looking at the record itself, I could see that it was very worn and well-played. I guess my sister had played it so often in the next room over that I absorbed a lot of the music right through the wood-paneled walls. I enjoy a lot of the music on Parallel Lines, but two of my favorite are Will Anything Happen and Sunday Girl.
When I listen to it, I like to picture my sister as she was…a slightly mysterious and angry punk kid rocking out in the next room while I played with my Star Wars figures.
Here is Will Anything Happen, maybe you can turn it up just enough that the person in the next room or cubicle will also get to passively absorb some good music.
