Hi-Yo-Silver! It Is The 80th Anniversary Of The Lone Ranger!

The Lone Ranger - 1956
Somehow it slipped past my radar yesterday but the Lone Ranger has reached his 80th Anniversary as an entertainment Icon. Originally airing on WXYZ radio in Detroit, Michigan on January 30th, 1933 the radio series would run for a total of 2,956 episodes as well as transform into a beloved TV series starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels that ran for eight seasons on the ABC television Network starting in 1949.

The character of the Lone Ranger has spun off into all manner of media offerings from comic books, novels, a Saturday Morning cartoon, and of course movies. A big budget version of the Lone Ranger is scheduled to hit theaters this Summer on July 3rd and stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger.

My favorite version of the Lone Ranger is still the TV version with Moore and Silverheels as well as the original radio broadcasts.

  1. Cosmic Joker says:

Ah, memories. Every time I hear the final stretch of the William Tell overture, I can’t help but think of a fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty heigh, ho, Silver.
