Today was the first of what I hope will be a regular occurrence here on The Retroist, Monkey Monday. It won’t be an every Monday thing, but I would like to do a couple each year. Why Monkey Monday? Because monkeys and apes are awesome and they in this cat-centric internet, they just don’t get the love and respect the deserve. So …Monkey Monday.
Here are a summary of this first Monkey Monday’s posts:
- Topps Planet of the Apes TV Series Cards
- Donkey Kong By Jayson Weidel!
- Mad Magazine Spoofs Planet of the Apes (1973)
- King Kong (Your Song)
- Robot Monster (1953)
- In the 1980s, I was “Going Ape!” with Tony Danza
- Donkey Kong Trading Card Sticker
- Caps For Sale
- Planet of the Apes Filming Locations
- Rick Baker on Gorillas
- Planet of the Apes Belt Buckle
- Planet of the Apes Original Movie Trailer (1968)

Monkey Monday was also active on The Retroist Facebook and Twitter. If you are interested in joining in the next Monkey Monday Festivities, just send me an email.

So that’s what all this planet of the apes stuff was about. Too bad I didn’t know ahead of time, the caps for sale article reminded me of another childhood fav featuring monkies, hands hands fingers thumb.
I like the idea. It’s a catchy name and give the blog it’s own unique “thing.”
Every day should be Monkey Monday.
Monkeeeeeeeeys!!!
It’s my birthday, right?
It must be, there be Apes in clothing everywhere!
Gonna catch up with all the Monkey Monday Madness then go Bananas!
Bananas!!!
Cuz it’s Monkeeeeeeeeeys!
(Seriously, though, your choice of temporalizing appreciation for such a fine species and their overlordy qualities shows much insight for a human. It is best to keep vocal restraint so as not to attract undue attention from the gorillas in the party but posting such fine articles about their exploits will be regarded highly in their ranks and you will be less likely to have anatomical transformations performed upon you.)
(For the time being)
So far it looks like Monkey Monday was a success. I think you will see another one pretty soon.
