King Kong (Your Song)

In the late 70s, my mother picked up a double record comedy compilation titled Goofy Gold. She also dubbed it over to cassette, and we took Goofy Gold with us on every road trip I can remember for at least a decade. On the cover you can see several characters from the included songs. In the upper left hand corner there’s the Purple People Eater, the lower left corner has the two cars from “Beep Beep”, at the six o’clock position is the kangaroo from “Tie Me Kangaroo Down”, in the middle is Big Bad John, on on the far right is King Kong.

“King Kong (Your Song)” was performed by Bobby “Monster Mash” Pickett and frequent collaborator Peter Ferrara. The song was released in 1976 to coincide with the King Kong remake that hit theaters at that same time. I am sure I heard this song long before I ever saw any version of the movie.
