Green Futuro Home in Illinois

In the spring of 2012, I wrote a post about Futuro Homes here at the Retroist and posted the picture below.

While driving through Illinois a month or so ago, imagine my surprise when I looked out the window and saw another one, just off the interstate!

This particular Futuro home sits just outside the Pink Elephant Antique Mall in Livingston, Illinois. It’s named the Pink Elephant because, well …

Also out front is an ice cream stand in a building shaped like a giant ice cream cone. When finished, the Pink Elephant hopes to convert their Futuro home into seating for their ice cream patrons. I can’t wait to go back when they do!

Rob, is that green paint metallic? If so, it is precisely the color I would have painted my Futuro home. And my Ralston Rocket. And Astro’s dog house.

If I had one of those Futuro homes, I couldn’t resist installing blinking lights on it and have steam come out of the bottom.

Also, I think I’d wear grey full-body pyjamas and go wave at people who passed by.

And btw, I wonder how many late-night drivers stopped drinking after spotting that pink elephant on the side of the road…
